BARSC Member Specto Natura Becomes UK Copernicus Ambassador
BARSC Company Member, Specto Natura is honoured to announce that the company has become part of the Copernicus Ambassador programme within the EU Space Network.
After a long association with Copernicus, and particularly the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS), it is great to see Specto Natura become a focal point for engagement within the UK.
Copernicus Ambassadors are experts in Copernicus and Earth Observation who specifically promote the Copernicus component, aiming to increase its visibility and encourage the use of Copernicus data, information, and services.
This includes activities such as integrating Copernicus data into curricula and research to improve skills and foster innovation, promoting user uptake in Earth Observation, acting as local champions for Copernicus, and facilitating access to Copernicus data and services at thematic, regional, or national levels.
Specto Natura has had close links to European Commission (EC), the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) through projects and advisory groups for two decades. They have a strong background in land monitoring from site to continental scales which has included national land cover mapping in the UK and contributing to the European CORINE Land Cover map.
Within the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS) they have been part of the initial Framework Programme contracts such as Geoland, then supported the specification and validation of CLMS services. This work has ultimately led to the paradigm shift now being driven by the EIONET Action Group on Land monitoring in Europe (EAGLE Group) to move towards land characterisation and the adoption of intermediate products to bridge the gap between satellite data and end user domain requirements in collaboration with the EEA.
Please reach out to Geoff Smith (geoffsmith@specto-natura.co.uk) if you are interested in Copernicus and land monitoring in particular.
