The National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the British Association of Remote Sensing Companies that is designed to develop a close working relationship between the two organisations.

The NCEO mission is to unlock the full potential of Earth Observation (EO) to monitor, diagnose and predict climate and environmental change through a partnership of scientists & institutions. BARSC represents the commercial interests of UK companies working with remote sensing and hence the link is an excellent chance for knowledge exchange across what can sometimes be an academic / business divide.

The MOU recognises the wealth of opportunities in EO that focus on the natural environment and will see the two organisations working together to identify opportunities of mutual interest that can be best addressed through a combination of industrial and research expertise.

BARSC & NCEO will organise regular joint events designed to stimulate ideas and future projects and undertake promotional activities to raise the profile of the EO sector as whole.

Commenting on the signing, BARSC Chairman Chetan Pradhan said: “This agreement between BARSC and NCEO will help bring the commercial and scientific remote sensing communities closer together, in a mutually beneficial relationship.

Industry will benefit from access to the latest R&D and scientific developments, while the science community will benefit from access to commercial markets and expertise from industry. Both communities will benefit from developing a joint strategy for innovation and growth in the earth observation services arena.”
