The European Commission and the EU Agency for the Space Programme are preparing to bring Europe’s space startup ecosystem to Prague this autumn, with a strong emphasis on commercial growth, investor access and market-ready applications of space data.

CASSINI Entrepreneurship Days 2026 will take place on 30 September and 1 October 2026 at La Fabrika in Prague. According to EUSPA, the event is designed to bring together startups, scale-ups, investors, accelerators and institutional decision-makers, with this year’s edition focused on how European space ventures are adapting to shifting geopolitical and market conditions.

For the Earth observation sector, the attraction is not simply another conference date in the diary. The event sits inside the wider EU effort to turn public space infrastructure into commercially viable businesses, particularly in downstream services built on Copernicus data. That makes it more relevant than a generic startup event for companies working in EO analytics, risk intelligence, environmental monitoring, infrastructure assessment and other operational applications.

EUSPA’s framing is explicit about that commercial intent. The event promises access to investors and strategic partners, one-to-one meetings, pitching opportunities and direct insight into upcoming EU funding and procurement opportunities. For EO firms, that matters because the path to growth often depends as much on procurement visibility, customer access and finance as on technical performance.

There is also evidence that the EO story inside CASSINI is becoming more commercially mature. EUSPA’s announcement of the 2026 CASSINI Challenges winners highlighted companies using Copernicus Earth observation data for wildfire detection, flood prediction, biodiversity monitoring and agricultural decision support. The agency said this year’s competition placed particular emphasis on commercial readiness, suggesting that European institutions are now looking beyond promising prototypes and towards solutions with clearer routes to adoption and revenue.

That is useful context for BARSC readers and the wider EO market. Public programmes increasingly want proof that satellite-enabled services can solve practical problems in climate resilience, infrastructure, civil protection, mobility and industrial operations. In that environment, the companies most likely to benefit are not necessarily those with the most novel algorithms in isolation, but those that can combine EO capability with credible delivery models and clear user demand.

CASSINI is the European Commission’s space entrepreneurship initiative for 2021-2027, set up to support entrepreneurs, startups and SMEs across both upstream and downstream space markets. According to the Commission, it covers areas ranging from launch and satellite technology to products and services enabled by space data, and includes a €1 billion seed and growth fund alongside hackathons, mentoring, prizes, acceleration and matchmaking.

It is one of the clearest examples of the EU trying to connect institutional space assets with private-sector growth. In practice, that means encouraging businesses to build commercial services on top of publicly backed systems such as Copernicus, while also giving them routes into finance, networks and public-sector demand.

For UK companies watching from outside the EU, the event is still relevant. Many British EO firms continue to work with European partners, customers and data ecosystems, particularly in downstream markets where Copernicus remains a major reference point. Even where direct participation is more complicated than it once was, the signals coming out of CASSINI are still useful indicators of where European demand, funding and commercial attention are moving.

Prague, then, is not just hosting a networking event. It is hosting a snapshot of how Europe wants its commercial space sector to develop and EO businesses would be wise to pay attention to which applications, business models and funding pathways are being highlighted.
