OFCOM is proposing to allow both indoor and outdoor use of lower power devices in the 116-122 GHz 174.8-182 GHz and 185-190 GHz frequency bands, subject to certain restrictions.

These bands are adjacent to some key Earth Observation passive bands however Ofcom has concluded that the interference to EO will not cause any problems: see Appendix 6, Coexistence analysis with Earth Exploration satellite services in their ‘Supporting Innovation in the 100-200GHz Frequency spectrum’ report.

However, the UK EO community should have the opportunity to asses the consultation with the view that the proposed restrictions are adequate to protect EO activities.

The consultation report and the response forms are on the Ofcom Consultation page
